Leverage Ratio is one of the most misunderstood concepts in suspension tuning, yet it directly affects how every valving change feels on the track.

In simple terms, leverage ratio is the relationship between wheel travel and shock travel. It tells us how much the rear wheel moves for every inch or millimeter the shock shaft moves.

For example:

  • 3.0:1 leverage ratio = 3 inches of wheel movement for every 1 inch of shock movement.
  • 2.5:1 leverage ratio = 2.5 inches of wheel movement for every 1 inch of shock movement.

The important thing to understand is that the leverage ratio determines how much force is transferred to the shock.
